A Belgian delegation focused on construction will be in Kinshasa from October 5 to 10. The delegation includes executives of small, medium, and big businesses. They will explore business opportunities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
"The mission will offer the opportunity to organize targeted business-to-business (B2B) meetings in different sectors. Although these meetings are not part of the collective program, they will enable participating companies to explore opportunities specific to their fields of activity,"explained Hub Brussels, one of the event's co-organizers along with the DRC’s Construction Confederation, the CCRD.
This will be the third Belgian economic mission in the DRC this year. In March, around 77 Belgian companies sent executives to Kinshasa. The Brussels Region was the organizer. Another mission focused on mining visited Lubumbashi in May. It was organized by the Fédération des entreprises du Congo (FEC).
The upcoming mission will include business meetings and thematic discussions, which are important as the DRC emphasizes local subcontracting. Current laws state that companies at least 51% owned by Congolese nationals should benefit from these opportunities. The mission will take place mostly in the capital, Kinshasa.
Some observers believe that the skills gap in certain sectors presents opportunities for international partnerships if negotiated properly. The DRC’s Subcontracting Regulator estimates that the DRC could generate $8 billion in annual sales through subcontracting.
