DRC Gold Trading S.A. plans to open a new branch in North Ubangi Province, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Joseph Kazibaziba Maombi said in an interview published by Innocence Consulting on June 21, 2026.
He did not specify when the branch would open but identified North Ubangi as one of the company’s next expansion targets. The state-owned company specializes in buying, trading and exporting artisanal gold.
The move builds on the company’s ongoing provincial expansion. After inaugurating a branch in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga province, and announcing plans to establish another in Kinshasa, DRC Gold Trading is continuing to expand its presence across the country.
The expanded network is expected to help the company achieve its goal of collecting between 15 and 18 metric tons of artisanal gold and generating more than $2 billion in revenue in 2026.
According to the 2025 annual report of the Technical Unit for Mining Coordination and Planning (CTCPM), the Democratic Republic of Congo’s official artisanal gold production totaled 2.3 metric tons last year. North Ubangi contributed just 3.65 kilograms, or about 0.2% of national production.
Despite accounting for only a small share of officially reported production, the province is regularly described as having significant gold mining potential. In 2021, local media reported that the provincial government announced that Canadian geologists had identified a gold deposit estimated at 920 metric tons, a figure frequently cited to illustrate the region’s mining prospects.
